Nov. 14-18th

The short version.
Monday 14
Arrived in the beautiful sea side village of Puerto Angel great beach, nice hotel. Jimi calls a lay over day and I agree. Max wants to do some work on the KTM.

Tuesday 15
Max works on the KTM. I swim, work on my tan and wander around town.

Wednesday 16
Plans for an early start are thwarted when the KTM refuses to start. Jim, Max and I tear into the bike. A local mechanic, phone calls and email advice all helps but in the end the bike, now referred to as moto diablo, refuses to start.

Thursday 17
Giving it further thought we sift through the advice we've received and dive into it again with the same results. Our hotel manager offers to take the bike and Max to an actual motorcycle mechanic located some 40 kilometers away tomorrow morning. We sign up.

Friday 18
We load the bike up and bid Max and moto diablo a fond farewell. About 15 minutes later Carlos, the hotel manager, reappears without his truck or Max? As best as we can understand with our limited spanish is that it's all ok. Thoughts of Max driving a local pickup, with an Alaskan drivers license, and an Alaska plated moto in the back driving to a town he has never been to and trying to find the moto repair shop fill our heads.
Jimi and I head out to explore the area on our bikes. Returning that afternoon three blocks from the hotel people start telling us "the moto is fixed". Seems we were a topic of local conversation all week. Arriving in the parking area there's Max all smiles with the KTM, cured.
It appears to have been a clogged carburetor jet.
Time to celebrate. Off to a local beach bar Jimi and I discovered earlier in the day. I will only say I had more beer and tequila than I should have and leave it at that. Ouch........
